Axel Einar Hjorth (1888–1959) was a Swedish architect and furniture designer, and one of the key figures of Swedish design between the wars. From 1927 to 1938, he served as chief architect and designer at Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Stockholm, where he created sophisticated furniture influenced by Swedish Grace, French Art Deco and emerging modernism.
Hjorth is particularly celebrated for his Sportstugemöbler collections, including Utö, Lovö and Sandhamn, which combined rustic Swedish pine with strong geometric forms and modern proportions. His work was exhibited internationally, including at the 1929 Barcelona World Exhibition and the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, and is today highly regarded for its distinctive blend of craftsmanship, modernism and Scandinavian simplicity.
